New Parent & Family Orientation

New Parent & Family Orientation is a one-day session designed to welcome families to the UCLA community and address the concerns family members have relative to their student’s upcoming university experience. Bruin Day introduced you to the many opportunities available at UCLA but New Parent & Family Orientation will look closer at life on campus, strategies for success, and what it means to be the family of a thriving UCLA student.  Whether you are a family member of a first year or transfer student, a new family to UCLA or an alumnus, we welcome you to our sessions.

Your session will feature presentations from UCLA staff, faculty, and students on academics, available services and educational opportunities, the transitional experiences of students and how families can support them, and general campus life.  A light continental breakfast, catered lunch, and afternoon refreshments are included.  To make the day enjoyable for your whole family, separate activities will be available for children.  All activities will be led by New Student Advisors, trained undergraduate counselors.

New Parent & Family Orientation session activities are held separately of your student’s orientation session but do coincide with the last day of each three-day First Year session. Your new student(s) should attend a New Student Orientation session.

You may wish to view Everything to Know About Orientation, a video discussion with UCLA Parent & Family Programs and New Student & Transition Programs.  It will answer many general questions about why Orientation is an important resource, what to expect from the sessions and summer, and what advising and enrollment look like at Orientation.

Please read through all the information about your orientation session before making your reservation.  If you have any questions about New Parent & Family Orientation, please contact our office at (310) 206-6685, or email us through the MyUCLA Message Center (with UCLA login or without UCLA login).
