New Parent & Family Orientation
UCLA New Parent & Family Orientations are one-day sessions designed to welcome families to the UCLA community and address the concerns family members have relative to their student’s upcoming university experience. Bruin Day introduced you to the many opportunities available at UCLA but New Parent & Family Orientation will look closer at life on campus, strategies for success, and what it means to be the family of a thriving UCLA student. Whether you are a family member of a first year or transfer student, new to UCLA or familiar with campus, a parent, partner, or supporter, we welcome you to our sessions.
Your session will feature presentations from UCLA staff, faculty, and students on academics, available services and educational opportunities, the transitional experiences of students and how families can support them, and general campus life. Lunch and light refreshments are included. All activities will be led by New Student Advisors, trained undergraduate counselors who are intimately familiar with the student experience.
New Parent & Family Orientation components are held separately of your student’s orientation session but do coincide with the first day of each two-day First Year session – as well as standalone English & Spanish sessions on Saturday, August 3. Family Orientation runs from 8:00 am to approximately 5:30 pm PDT. Your new student(s) should attend a New Student Orientation – where academic advising and enrollment occur. Students are welcome to join family orientations but the information will be fairly repetitive from the student session, information will be presented through a family lens, and the student will be charged for attending both sessions.
Please read through all the information about your session before making your reservation. If you have any questions about New Parent & Family Orientation, please contact our office at (310) 206-6685, or email us through the MyUCLA Message Center (with UCLA login or without UCLA login). If you are looking for lodging there are numerous local options nearby as well as the UCLA Guest House and Luskin Conference Center located conveniently on campus.
