College Summer Institute (CSI)
The College Summer Institute (CSI) is an excellent way for incoming first year students to make a smooth and successful transition into their first year at UCLA. For six weeks before the start of Fall Quarter, students will live on campus with their fellow undergraduates while taking courses that satisfy several University requirements.
Students will choose from many of UCLA’s most high-demand courses, offered in smaller class settings than during the regular school year. Classes will be entirely comprised of new students, so it is easier to make friends and adjust to university life. For the first time, CSI students will be able to enroll into University Studies at no additional cost! With the support of UCLA advisors, CSI students will learn their way around campus, Westwood, and Los Angeles for successful head start!
The CSI program begins the week before courses start with New Student Orientation. CSI courses usually begin the first week of August and run for six weeks. Students design their own course plan that can include courses in composition, General Education (GE), and college success (University Studies) All courses meet UCLA’s degree requirements, and tutoring and counseling are available to support student success.
Your CSI enrollment includes the cost for classes, New Student Orientation fees, and housing and meals in the residence halls for the duration of the program (all CSI students reside together in Sproul Landing). By staying on campus during CSI, students have the opportunity to make a stronger connection with the campus, be close to their classes and tutoring services, use the campus libraries and recreational facilities, and make friends with other CSI students.
For many students, the cost of CSI actually represents a savings. The program fee is based on the number of units of coursework taken. CSI students can take University Studies 10/20 for no additional cost during CSI. Below you will find the individual costs for the College Summer Institute.
Total cost for CSI will be approximately $5980-$7100 (depending on the number of units of coursework taken).
A $150 nonrefundable deposit is due at the time of registration. Financial aid is available to qualified students. You can find out more on the Financial Aid Web site.
Full payment of fees is due by July 22, 2016.
If you are local to the Los Angeles area and would prefer to commute to CSI, you have that option. Please contact New Student and Transition Programs (310) 206-6685 to remove housing and adjust your fees. You will still have access to counseling, tutoring, and social activities.
CSI students who wish to stay in on-campus housing after CSI has concluded and before campus move-in begins may do so for an additional fee. The cost is $250, including meals for the days before all campus move-in.
